Horse Boy

My daughter and I just finished reading "The Horse and His Boy" by C. S. Lewis. I don't know any other 18 month old that asks for C. S. Lewis over Dr. Seuss for a bedtime story.

It was fun to read it again and it made me want to do an illustration for it. I think the colors are overly saturated, but if I keep noodling on it anymore I might go crazy.

Ok, so I know it has nothing to do with this week's topic, but when I was putting tags on it it autofilled "illustration friday" so I figured: "Ah, what the heck, why not." If anyone asks, I was in a sour mood when I drew it...so there.

I don't think the coloring looks over-saturated, I think it looks great! Also, your daughter has good taste in literature!

I looked at this one and your Harry Potter one and I like both. Your foreground figures look very clean and finished. I think the backgrounds still need something--maybe just some texture so there isn't such a contrast between the finish of the characters and that of the background? Or a few intermediately detailed items in the middleground?

I don't think the color looks over-saturated either. It looks vivid.
